At the regular meeting of Corbie Lodge No. 9155 on 9th January, the Worshipful Master, WBro Jack Summerfield, had the honour of officially opening The Stage Bar at the Corby Masonic Centre.

WBro Jack is no stranger to the stage himself, having played the role of pantomime dame many times in the annual Masonic pantomimes. Fittingly, he was joined at the opening by several past cast members, making the occasion both symbolic and celebratory.

Part of Project 25

The Stage Bar is a key feature of Project 25, the ambitious initiative currently underway at Corby. Project 25 is focused on securing the long-term future of Freemasonry in the area by ensuring the Centre is both financially sustainable and fit for purpose. One aspect of this is leasing part of the building on a long-term basis, with the creation of new dental facilities by incoming tenants.

The handover to the contractors was scheduled for 6th January 2025, meaning preparations had to be completed over the Christmas and New Year period. Thanks to the efforts of members, the Centre was cleared and made ready in time.

Built by Volunteers

The Stage Bar itself has been created entirely by volunteers from across the Corby Lodges. Work began in early December and continued through weekends and into the festive season. Members gave up their time and energy, contributing skills, expertise, and plenty of sheer determination.

Their commitment and effort not only brought The Stage Bar to life but also demonstrated the spirit of cooperation and brotherhood that lies at the heart of Freemasonry.

Looking Ahead

The opening of The Stage Bar is more than just a milestone in Project 25 — it is a symbol of renewal and progress. By working together, the brethren of Corby have taken a major step in securing the Centre’s future, ensuring it continues to serve the needs of members and the wider community for years to come.

Freemasonry in Corby owes a debt of gratitude to all who gave their time and energy to make this possible.
